Gluten-free and still in pain?

This is an addition to the post at the bottom of the page.

I have been asked what kind of enzymes do I use and why. I use Enzymedica’s Digest Gold with each of my meals and/or snacks.

Enzymedica is the company that started producing enzymes. The products are of great quality and they worked almost instantaneously.

The other company producing enzymes is Now. The only big difference between them, besides the price, is the presence of minerals in the Enzymedica’s lines and a slightly different proportion of the given enzymes.

If you are looking to solve strictly digestive problems (bloating, gas, irregularity..) the Super Enzymes from Now are the answer.

However, if your digestive problems are accompanied by a general feeling of tiredness and lack of energy, the Digest Gold are your answer.  The best price, I have found so far, for the Digest Gold is about $80 for 240 capsules. Please let me know if you’ll find better prices for this most necessary supplement.

If you have celiac disease/gluten-sensitivity, following a gluten-free diet prevents damage to your pancreas.

Are you still experience abdominal pain, gas, or diarrhea on a strict gluten-free diet?  Then, you may want to get evaluated for EPI (exocrine pancreatic insufficiency).

EPI

The pancreas is an organ in the digestive system that functions as both an endocrine gland (secreting its products/hormones directly into the blood) and an exocrine gland (secreting its products through tube-like ducts).  The exocrine pancreas secretes the enzymes( lipase, protease, and amylase) needed for food digestion in the duodenum (first part of the small intestine), and bicarbonate to neutralize stomach acid.

The pancreas can become ineffective due to decreased production, stimulation, or delivery of its products.  Pancreatic diseases and conditions that can cause pancreatic damage severe enough to lead to insufficiency include:

  • Celiac Disease/non-Celiac gluten intolerance
  • Gastrointestinal surgery in which parts of the pancreas or stomach are removed;
  • Crohn’s Disease
